STEMBridge
To expand our outreach beyond our district’s borders, this year, we’ve led and created robotics programs bringing STEM to students across the broader STEM community.
Austin Public Library (APL)
We held multiple events with fast-paced “sumo” robotics battles allowing students to use LEGO Spike Kits to make shields and battle against one another, sphero bots, and fun science events such as color-changing ink and creating their own DNA model using candy.
“The hands-on nature of the event provided practical application that classroom learning alone cannot replicate. The event’s structure empowers underrepresented groups to see themselves as future leaders in the STEM community.” — Jenny Miner, APL Youth Librarian
Ann Richards School for Girls
2468 holds city-wide STEM events in partnership with Ann Richards School for Girls, inspiring 35+ girls to pursue STEM.
Foster Care Events
After learning less than 3% of foster children go on to pursue STEM degrees, we started a program to bring STEM events directly to foster children. Founded in 2025, we’ve partnered with nonprofits like the AngelHeart and Foster Village to host “Robotics Fun Days” in their facilities, reaching foster kids of all ages.
Kids use LEGO Spike Kits to build a robot and use Scratch to code a program before racing the bots across tables and floors. They also build LEGO Spike robots and use Scratch to code a program before racing the bots across tables and floors.
